In contrast to other industrial sectors, the construction industry produces, by means of mobile production techniques, immobile and stationary products in the form of infrastructure works and buildings. In the construction industry, it is the workers that move around rather than the products. It is therefore an industry characterised by the high mobility of its workforce.

In this framework, the "Posting of Workers" Directive (96/71/EC) constitutes a central piece of European legislation, aimed at regulating the movement of workers posted from one EU country to another.

FIEC and EFBWW, the European Social Partners in the construction industry, with the support of the European Commission, therefore decided to draw up this web site. While not exhaustive, it focuses on legal provisions and regulations affecting construction activities, with the aim of helping firms and workers identify those national legal and conventional provisions which have to be respected when workers are posted from one EU country to another. It further identifies those persons or organisations in the country of destination of posted workers from whom further detailed information may be obtained.
